[...] In knitting news, I have finished Rogue (remember Rogue, from, oh, a year and a half ago or so?), but I am waiting to model her on the blog until such time as I feel more spry. In spite of our bronchial woes, I am delighted with the sweater, which is all the more special because my sister spun the yarn for it. [...]

Carolyn, the Celtic cables do look scary, but fear not! You can do them. I had never done them before, and not only have they come out pretty much fine, but I'm eager to do more patterns that incorporate them.

The pattern is wonderful (I'm assuming the same would go for Eris). For your six bucks, you get 19 or 20 pages of careful instructions and clear, intuitive charts. Jenna is really painstaking in her write-up, so you won't encounter any problems there.

The one thing I would recommend--if you haven't done Celtic cabling before--is to check on her website for the instructions about how to start a closed cable. I think the original technique came from Alice Starmore, and it is worth the three seconds to check it out.

Can you tell that I didn't bother to do this? Being prideful and impetuous? Right. And my first one was crap. I was duly punished. But it doesn't have to happen to you.

Go for it! I think you'll find it a challenge, but in a good way.

Hi, just popped over from Ample Knitters, and I see you're knitting a lovely Rogue. I'm thinking of buying the pattern for Eris, and I was wondering if you were happy with your experience with Rogue. Those cables look a little scary ;)

That's good news. That also presumes I'll live to be 90, but given family history it isn't out of the question...

I'll take your Namaste if it looks like this: http://www.namasteneedles.com/products/accessories.php

Have a wonderful, mindful vacation. I am jealous of you--able to wear a bikini. And I wouldn't have pictured Rogue in that particular color, but hey, it's vacation!

I saw the Brothers Grimm book; is that going too? Or are you actually taking Heath Ledger and the Damon boy? A little gory moralistic reading is always good for the beach. You could also take Struwwelpeter http://www.fln.vcu.edu/struwwel/struwwel.html with you. He's good for a laugh or a nightmare.

Since I am heading to Maine in two weeks, I will try to take your admonition to heart and not return more tired than when I left. Does yarn shopping count?

I'll miss you! And my Mr. Kitty is just as insufferable as yours. "I made him an offer he couldn't refuse" he tells me of the cat he just displaced from the windowsill. Namaste back atcha.
