[...] I followed the pattern pretty closely on these–the Twin Rib sock from Charlene Schurch’s Sensational Knitted Socks. The only thing I changed was to work quite a few more rows of heel flap than she calls for. Oh, and I changed the heel stitch heel flap to an eye-of-partridge (or eye-of-newt, as my dear sis would say) heel flap, just because I like the way it looks.
I love the "eye-of-newt!" Much better name for it than the eye-of-partridge. I also like the heel itself.

I have a picture of DD's cats getting up to no good with the computer (http://yarntails.blogspot.com/2006/04/pets-are-in-charge.html).

Eye-of-Newt is also my new favorite for heels.

Sarah, I think either Zeno is getting behind-the-scenes, eyes-only messages from Boots and Tortle OR he's getting messages from beyond the grave from Lee Harvey Oswald. Admit it: stranger things have happened.

Lorinda, here's how you do the eye-of-newt heel:

Let's say your heel flap is 34 stitches (or some other even number). On the first row, you *slip 1, k1*, repeat to end of row.
Row 2: Slip 1, purl entire row.
Row 3: Slip 2, *k1, slip1*, repeat until two stitches remain, then knit those two stitches.
Row 4: Slip 1, purl entire row.

Repeat these four rows until your heel flap is the desired length. That's all there is to it!

My question is, who is sending him email? Has he gotten any furtive messages from Boots or Tortellini?

Proud you should be - those are gorgeous!! I *like* that rib, and ROFL on the eye-of-newt heel; which is looking very fine. Beautiful color, too, and twinnage...details, details. I repeat, gorgeous! I have to agree with Lorinda. I think Zeno is happily basking in a warm hoomin surrounding him, heat from the laptop at his front, and two unwitting slaves. (Electronic is almost as good as human. Or at least they move less.) He's even pulling you into his orbit along with Alex and the laptop. You're taking pictures of him, aren't you? Shelley is right.

(Zeno? I salute you. Ignore the above, I know you're getting coded messages via innocent emails theoretically addressed to Alex. But I do have to admire the side-benefit of added warmth. Positively Machiavellian.)

Is Zeno deigning to sit on the human lap for affection or body heat? Love the socks! And where can I find the eye-of-newt heel instructions? I am determined to try it after seeing your beautiful results.
