Hey there--

Just a random lurker passing through but felt that I had to comment on your post. I just finished grad school (MA in history--go history geeks!) and it was ExTrEmElY trying, to say the least. Like trying to kill me with it's stealthy expanding reading load, lack of a social life, and extremely heavy work load, academic and TA/RA-wise. Oh? And the no money thing? Yea, been there, done that. Anyhoo, I made it and I didn't think I was going to, so....I guess....just keep sluggin'--you'll make it and be fabulous, and contrary to how it may feel in the moment, it is worth it.

Good luck! :)

Yay for your chapter!

Funny and striking thing. Some of the things you mention about grad school...the lack of age-appropriate companionship, the isolation, the feeling of being invisible, the loss of feeling competent and the resulting decline in self-esteem...I found that all these same things happened to me as a stay-at-home mom.

Congratulations! You have to celebrate all of the steps that go into this thing. Never know how long it's gonna be until you get to the next one. May you have chapters spilling out of you just as fast as you can write them down.

I know this is incredibly cliched and cheesy, but what I always remind myself about grad school is the quote that "if it were easy, everyone would do it." While I'm slogging away trying to accomplish something, anything really, it helps to keep that in the back of my mind. I'm here because I can do this, and it won't be easy, but it won't be impossible either. Congrats on getting through that first chapter - getting started is supposed to be the hardest part, right? ;)

Also, the sweater is looking great!

I'm so glad that this post had a happy (or at least encouraging) conclusion.

The prospect that it could be even worse than it is already may be too bleak for me to contemplate.

I cannot even imagine going through grad school. It's definitely what stops me from thinking about education as a career possibility.

Maybe Queen Gorgo packed him a Lunchable as well. Very popular with the younger set, you know.
Was "300" as good as "Troy?" (snerk) "I want history to remember my name!" Or something along those lines.
