Our wedding coordinators (for the ceremony part) told us that the dress is the third "person" involved in the ceremony. They were kidding for the most part, but the dress took on a space of a whole person when practicing walking, etc. I'd recommend tying on a sheet for the rehearsal if you're having one.

My husband and I comment all the time on the sadness of the idea that prom is the best day of a high schooler's life. We fervently hope there will be much better days in the lives of all of them!

My DD is a size 28, and proud of it! I love her to bits, and she has more self-esteem in her little finger than I EVER had in my entire life. I don't understand people (let alone mothers) who think that berating and belittling is the way to make yourself feel better. I dunno, maybe we need a course in constructive criticism?!? As for the 8-point bustle, good luck with that!

Nasser's the really cute one, right?

And I STILL think you should wear the pink socks on the big day.

I'd think the Bridal Barn (ok, who chose that name?!) could draw a map to the bustle points, no? ;) As long as they don't first translate it to Japanese, then back to English via some other language and the help of a bi-lingual dictionary. Somewhat like those Russian movie subtitles. [vbg] Whatever happens, I believe you. You will not be outwitted by a flippin' dress! And hurray on not dropping a dress size! And now, thanks to Sean, I have visions of drunken maids of honor dancing through my head. This is proving quite hilarious - thanks, Sean!

Plus hear hear on the mother-daughter-criticism bit. Gadzooks. Boy, I was sure lucky with my Mom. I never went to a prom, but she'd never have pulled that sort of thing. Thank god. (And Mom.)

OH, dear. Remind me to recount the story of my sister's wedding and her multi-attachment bustle who, the drunk maid of honor, had no wits left to rely on.

Picture this: Father and son, attaching the bustle, snap-hook; hook-snap; etc…

My advice, drink after the bustle is attached…LOL.

OK, I'll brag. My DD is absolutely stunning, not to mention smart, quick and pretty sure of herself. My self-designated role was to weed out those dresses that were not appropriate or that did not make her look even more stunning.

An 8-attachment bustle?!?!? I think my dress had one. Good thing, as I'm sure that more than that would have intimidated me.

Whatever happened to YOUR Taurus?

Re mothers criticizing their daughters' bodies. I had tried to tell myself that my generation's mothers did that because they were frustrated career women and had to vent their critical faculties somewhere. Or that they truly feared for their daughters' future well-being, since in their experience, one must find a husband or starve. This generation's mothers have no excuse.
