So much to celebrate!

Sarah and I would like to thank all of our wonderful readers for a great first year in the blogosphere! A year ago today—when we were still figuring out just how the devil to post photos and every post took four hours to complete—we had no inkling how much sheer fun this enterprise would be, much less that it would allow us to connect meaningfully to old friends and make so many great new ones.

Like most of the best things in life, its full merits emerged gradually.

Now we’re as happy as a dog systematically killing the newly-sprouted grass by rolling on her back in the same spot every day. (Photo courtesy of the Incomparable Kate.)

We’d just like to express our gratitude to the readers who have been with us through all the knitting errors, knitting ennui, and knitting ecstasy, all the personal ups and downs, all the good luck and the bad.

To that end, we are announcing a little contest. The prize will be a cone of the same yarn from which Sarah knit the Handsome Triangle:

Ellen says: I would have included a picture of the actual cone you will receive—which is well over 2000 yards, I believe, and is a cashmere-wool blend—but you know me! I packed it already…

Here’s what you gotta do: using whatever information you can find on the blog, plus your good sense and intuition, leave a comment on this post with your guess as to the number of people who will be at:
1. Ellen’s wedding
2. Ellen’s first wedding reception in CA
3. Ellen’s second wedding reception in MA

You may also speculate regarding Ellen’s wedding gown style and when Sarah will finish Rumple, but these extras are not required for the contest.

Whoever is closest to the actual numbers for all three nuptial events will win the coveted hot pink prize. The prize will be awarded after Ellen’s second wedding reception (once all the returns are in, as it were) and will be shipped out to the lucky winner in mid-July.

Good luck! And thanks for a great year!

Omigosh! Congrats on blogging for a year! I happened on your blog one day and recently finished up with the archives. I think you two are great–thanks for beings so entertaining!

My guesses for the reception(s) are as follows:
    1) Wedding: 15 people
    2) CA reception: 85 people
    3) MA reception: 180 people invited

From what I can gather about Ellen, she doesn’t seem all that frou-frou to me, but we did catch a glimpse of what the trim on the dress might look like, so I’m guessing it will be simple, but with a few pretty and complex accent pieces? Oh yeah, and eight bustles. 🙂

And I’m sure Sarah can get Rumplestiltskin done by the wedding, even if she doesn’t need to anymore. She’s a speedy one.

Ok, I’m going to guess here – at the first event, you & the groom (because everyone knows they don’t get a name, just a designation), the preacher (officiant, JP, dahli llama, rabbi, pick one), parents, sibs, I’d say about 12.
second event, I’m guessing about 50
last one I’ve got a lock on – by your estimation, 180.
I hope I’m the closest, because I’ve got some lovely sock yarn that will go *perfectly* with that cone of yarn!!!! yippeee!!!

I’m so glad I don’t have the only dog in the world that carries toys outside and lays them gently on the grass while he rolls in something I’m afraid to look at!

Oh, numbers, well, here goes: the wedding: 20; the CA reception, 110, and the MA reception, 200. Oh, I hope I’m closest; I can already feel that lovely cashmere-wool blend sliding between my fingers!

  4. Marsha Says:

I have attended more weddings than I have knitted items. I also know that it has become unfashionable for people to RSVP anymore, so you will not know who is coming until you actually count noses on the Big Days. Okay now so here’s my guess:

    Wedding – 11
    CA reception – 51
    MA reception – 126
    Total – 188
That includes everyone, such as the bride, groom and officiant.

It does not include the dog-count, however.

Hmmm…I’m so bad at this sort of thing.

    1) Wedding = 24 people
    2) CA Reception = 62
    3) MA Reception = 155

Of course, if Ellen actually breaks out of the fifth circle of gender-role hell before next week, I revise my estimate.

    1) Las Vegas Casino-style wedding = 5 people (Alex, Ellen, officiant, officiant’s wife, Elvis impersonator)

Hee hee. Congratulations gals on one year in the blogosphere! And thank you. More times than I can count, this blog has saved my bacon. Or at least my mood. 🙂

  6. Ali Says:

Congrats on one year in blogosphere. I don’t usually post but love to read blogs. I just happened upon yours this week but already can tell it will be a regular read. My guesses are

    1) Wedding – 18 people
    2) Reception CA – 70 people
    3) Reception MA – 160 people

  7. Kristy Says:

Congrats, Ladies! I always enjoy reading your blog 🙂 Here are my guesses:

    1) 12 people
    2) 70 people
    3) 120 people

Ellen, I hope you have a lot of fun at your wedding and receptions! Sara, I’m glad you don’t have to finish Rumplestiltskin in time for the wedding, but I’m looking forward to seeing it!

  8. Rima Says:

What fun!!! The day is approaching AND not only do the bride and groom receive gifts but so does a lucky devoted blogeeeeee!!! woo hoo!

I haven’t been a “follower” for that long and have not had time to read the archives on all that has been planned for the wedding but I can’t imagine not having media coverage and throngs of knitting devotees attending your wedding 🙂 – so with that said … and gleening information from the previous blog estimates … my estimate for attendance for the wedding ceremony – 63 (that includes Shelley’s friends!)

    CA Reception – 101
    MA Reception – 167

    Happy Day!!!

  9. Kim Says:

Happy blogiversary, you two! I would have thought you had been blogging longer than 1 year! I’m guessing wedding: 9, CA: 45, MA: 80. Good luck!

  10. teresa Says:

Thanks for a great year. I have been cheering you guys on from the great state of Washington. The desert area, not the rain!!
I have enjoyed your trials and tribulations.

  11. Desirae Says:

I’ve got to put a guess in, although I cannot imagine that I have aquired the skills yet to do justice to the beautiful yarn.

    After much meditation:
    Wedding: Lucky 13
    CA: 36
    MA:163

  12. Kate Says:

I would be terribly undeserving of such beautiful yarn, but you’ve hooked me, so here are my guesses (for actual attendance):

    Wedding: 10
    California reception: 48
    Mass. reception: 113

As for the wedding dress, I’m similarly intrigued, but here I have virtually no idea. Eight-point bustle must mean a fairly full skirt, no? And I would have said cap-sleeves (just because I like them??), but at the same time we wouldn’t want to obscure any part of those sculpted arms!

  13. Karen Says:

Hi! Here are a few numbers for the contest:

    Wedding: 27
    Reception CA: 39
    Reception MA: 147

Those numbers come straight from the Gauge Goddess, who counts everything, so they must be right.

And now that I sort of have your attention, do you suppose knitting information on Blue Bamboo will ever be made public? I have been watching for it since stumbling on this blog (probably about the time you started blogging – congrats on making it past year one!) and keep hoping someday to make one of my own. I love anything with (knitted, printed, drawn, sewn, photographed…) leaves and absolutely dream about this design.

Oh, and by the way, hope the wedding and its attached festivities are the best fun for everyone concerned! – KVL

  15. Knit Sisters » Blog Archive » The contest is decided Says:

[…] Back on our blogiversary, we announced a “Guess the Guests” contest, the winner of which would receive the Amazing Pink Cone of Wonder (a.k.a. 2000+ yards of a cashmere-wool blend laceweight yarn in hot pink): Sarah made her Handsome Triangle out of this stuff and it is…otherworldly. As its earthly curator, I have kept this cone wrapped, so its full wonder is not quite apparent in this photo. […]

    Love your shiba…beautiful. 🙂
