Bobbie, where in the PNW are you? The reason I ask (well, other than curiosity) is that if you're in Seattle - there are black walnut trees at Green Lake along the western edge of Green Lake Drive.

Oooh, they do look like black walnuts! Being a mid-westerner, I'm sure you know how to get the hulls off (best way I found is rake them into the driveway and drive on them until the hulls fall off and they're dry), be sure to use thick gloves or your hands will be permanently stained, crack them with a hammer on one of those gorgeous posts, and then pick them out of the shells at night after dinner until you have a pint jar full. Then, wrap the jar carefully in bubble wrap and place in a dark place, like a cardboard box. Of course, you must protect the jar, so put some styrofoam peanuts in there to cushion it, or better yet some yarn. Then take the whole shebang to the post office and write my name and address on it, because we don't have black walnuts out here in the Great Pacific North Wet.

Thanks Sarah! Very nice! I can imagine that you will have many pleasant days in that house and yard - in the hammock, on the deck, gazing out at the trees. I think those backyard trees are black walnuts, or at least some kind of walnut.
